Terms of Use
1. Agreement
Thank you for using Romaji Online (the “App”, “Service”). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” includes that organization.
2. The Service
Romaji Online provides tools and lessons to learn Japanese romanization and reading (for example hiragana, katakana, and kanji-related practice). We may offer free core content and optional paid features or subscriptions (“Premium”). Features and availability may change; we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
3. Accounts
Some features may work without an account; others may require registration or sign-in through Apple, Google, or methods we support. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for activity under your account. Notify us promptly of unauthorized use.
4. Subscriptions and purchases
If you purchase Premium, the following applies in addition to store-specific terms:
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the then-current price.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
- Any unused portion of a free trial, if offered, may be forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where allowed by the platform.
Free tiers may include usage limits; Premium features are defined in the App at the time of purchase.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service. For example, you must not:
- Violate applicable laws or third-party rights.
- Attempt to probe, disrupt, or circumvent security or access non-public areas.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except where the law permits.
- Use automated means (e.g. bots, scrapers) to access the Service in a way that harms or overloads it.
- Upload malware, spam, or deceptive material; harass others; or collect personal data without consent.
- Use the Service to build a competing product by extracting our content or data at scale without permission.
We may suspend or terminate access for violations or risk to the Service or other users.
6. Intellectual property
The Service, including software, branding, design, and curated content, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service as intended. Except as allowed by law, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without our consent.
7. User content
If the Service allows you to submit content, you grant us a license to use, store, and display that content only as needed to operate and improve the Service. You represent that you have the rights to submit it and that it does not violate these Terms or others’ rights.
8. Third parties
The Service may link to or integrate third-party services (including app stores). Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of those services. We are not responsible for third-party content or practices.
9. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that results (including learning outcomes) will meet your expectations or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we and our affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (if any) or fifty U.S. dollars, except where law requires otherwise.
11. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
12. Changes
We may modify these Terms or the Service. We will post updated Terms on this page and may provide in-app notice. Material changes may require additional consent where required by law. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance unless you stop using the Service.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that violates these Terms or to comply with law. Provisions that by nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute terms where applicable) will survive termination.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in our place of establishment, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country require otherwise. Courts in that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction for disputes, unless mandatory law gives you the right to bring claims in your home country.
15. DMCA / copyright
We respect intellectual property. If you believe content in the Service infringes your rights, contact us with a detailed notice including identification of the work, the material at issue, your contact information, and a good-faith statement. We may remove or disable allegedly infringing material as appropriate.
